Treating Eye Conditions with Specialty Lenses

We fit contact lenses for patients with many types of prescriptions and eye conditions. During a comprehensive eye exam, we can determine what type of contact lens will be best to correct your vision. Eye conditions we can help treat with specialty lenses include:

Our Specialty Lenses

The optometrists at Oviedo Vision Center are skilled in fitting specialty contact lenses. Contacts should fit comfortably and function to meet your vision needs. If you’ve never worn contacts or are looking to switch up the type you are wearing, visit us for a contact lens exam and fitting.

Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses are made of special plastic that allows oxygen to pass through to the eye. These lenses are more durable than soft lenses and provide clear, sharp vision. Your eyes may need a longer period of time to adjust to RGP lenses, but they can correct several vision problems.

Orthokeratology, known as ortho-k for short, is a type of contact lens used to temporarily reshape the cornea while you sleep. Ortho-k lenses are an effective treatment for myopia (nearsightedness).

The lenses work by flattening the cornea to change how light is refracted onto the retina. Once removed in the morning, the cornea can stay flat throughout the day. Your vision can be corrected without the need for glasses.

If you’ve previously had a difficult time finding contact lenses that fit comfortably, scleral contact lenses could be your answer.

Scleral contact lenses are larger in diameter than traditional contacts to cover the entire surface of the cornea and rest on the sclera (the white part of your eye). These lenses leave a space between the contact and the cornea to create a fluid reservoir and maintain moisture.

Scleral lenses can help alleviate dry eye symptoms, correct astigmatism, and correct the refractive errors caused by keratoconus.
